Florida Tribal Dance
was founded in November 2006 by Lacey Sanchez with a desire to share the rich and diverse style of Tribal Bellydance with the masses. Since it's inception Florida Tribal Dance has been dedicated to providing knowledgable and thoughtful instruction as well as dynamic and exciting performances to our community in Orlando and Central Florida.

We believe that Tribal Bellydance is first and foremost about dancing together and with that comes a sense of connection, family and community. Our students are the heart of our studio inspiring us as well as each other through each hip bump mastered and friendship gained.

With a passion for learning we aim to inspire our students through our weekly classes as well as expose them to some of the pioneers and innovators in Tribal Bellydance by bringing exceptional instructors from all over the United States right to our home studio for workshops and intensives that are exclusive to our studio.

Performances are looked at as celebrations to showcase to our community and families the love we share for this artform. Every Spring and Fall our dancers take the stage in our Gala performances; Night Blooming Tribal and A Tribal Garden. In addition we also host several "Haflas" or parties at our studio for students to get to know each other and have the opportunities to gain performance experience in a supportive environment. Our performance troupes: Aeonium, Blue Caravan, and Silver Sage can also frequently be seen performing throughout Orlando at local events and celebrations.

We are Located at:
825 Virginia Dr Orlando, FL 32803

On the corner of Virgina Dr and Haven Dr.

Tribal bellydance traces its roots to a genre founded in California in the late nineteen sixties, where dancers began blending traditional movements with a sense of communal expression. Over the decades the form has continued to expand across the globe, drawing inspiration from Spanish flamenco, North African rhythms, Middle Eastern patterns, and Indian classical influences. This evolving style is known for its earthy, joyous, colorful, and spirited performances that celebrate cultural exchange. Today tribal fusion and tribal style improvisation remain popular among dancers who want to honor tradition while exploring their own creative voice.

At the heart of tribal dance is the idea of dancing together rather than performing in isolation. Students often describe the experience as joining a welcoming family where connection and camaraderie grow naturally through shared movement. The style invites dancers of any age, size, or gender to participate, emphasizing spirit, love, and the simple desire to learn. Classes often feel like a workout that also doubles as a chance to meet friends and build community. This inclusive spirit is what continues to inspire new generations of movers.

Tribal fusion bellydance takes the foundations of traditional tribal style and layers in unexpected elements from other dance forms. Dancers experiment with isolations, dramatic posture, and layered costuming while still respecting the improvisational nature of group improvisation. The result is a style that feels both ancient and modern, honoring heritage while remaining open to contemporary influence. For students, this balance offers a path to deepen technique and expand artistic range. Many find that fusion allows them to express personal stories through movement.

Tribal style improvisation, often practiced in a group setting, relies on shared cues and a leader-follower structure that allows dancers to communicate without words. Each performer interprets the lead in their own way, creating a layered visual tapestry that changes with every piece of music. The format encourages listening, patience, and mutual trust, which often carries beyond the dance floor into daily life. Workshops and regular classes help dancers build the vocabulary needed to participate confidently. Over time, the practice becomes a meditative and joyful ritual for many students.

For those curious about trying tribal bellydance, the most important step is showing up with an open heart and a willingness to learn. Beginners are usually encouraged to focus on foundational movements, posture, and breath before progressing to more complex combinations. Studios often welcome newcomers with trial classes or introductory sessions that explain costuming, music, and community expectations. Whether the goal is fitness, friendship, or artistic growth, tribal dance offers a supportive environment where progress feels personal and shared. The journey is as rewarding as the destination.
